Frequently asked questions
What publishers ask us before digitising their magazine.
What is the difference between a flipbook and an interactive magazine?
A flipbook reproduces the page-turning of a PDF, and stops there. An interactive magazine adds what the PDF does not carry: a clickable contents page, a search engine covering the whole issue, an alphabetical index of subjects and names, video and audio inside the articles, reading animations, and distinct graphic treatments per section. The figures on this page show 2 to 4 times more interactions than a PDF or a basic flipbook.
How quickly can a magazine go live?
A NANOBOOK is delivered in three working days. For an E.PRINT, the lead time depends on the interface and the features to be built: we set it with you once we have seen the document.
Can readers find a specific article?
Yes. A search engine covers the whole issue and highlights results within the pages. Alongside it sit a clickable contents page leading to sections and articles, and an index of subjects, names and themes in alphabetical order.
Can the magazine be restricted to a specific audience?
Yes. Access can be reserved for subscribers, staff or selected audiences, and distribution limited to a defined circle or a private network. Downloading can be allowed or withheld, and restricted to certain pages.
Which devices can the magazine be read on?
Desktop, tablet and mobile. Several reading modes are available depending on how people read: page-turning, vertical scrolling or horizontal scrolling.
Can you tell what is actually read?
Yes. Reader numbers, page views and time spent are measured, and the best-performing sections and articles are identified. Enough to shape the editorial line of future issues on data rather than impressions.
Can an interactive magazine be made accessible?
Accessibility is approached two ways: a navigable HTML version and a tagged PDF, on the basis of RGAA 4.1.2. How far it can go depends on the source document; we assess that with you before committing.
